FTP is the most efficient way of transferring and sharing files and folders over the Internet and it's much more popular than other file sharing methods, like email attachments or online drives. But in order to take advantage of all the benefits that FTP can offer, you will first need to find a FTP server on which you can connect. There are numerous FTP services on the market which are free, but most of them offer a series of limitations and removing them will not be free.

This is why it's a good idea to run your own FTP server and customize it in any way possible. An application which allows you to easily run your own FTP server is FileCOPA FTP Server. After the application is installed, the user will be presented with a practical and intuitive interface, which allows him to easily configure the FTP server options.

The first thing to do is to check the IP and port settings. Normally, these settings are automatically configured by FileCOPA FTP Server, but there are cases when the user should set them manually. Next, one will need to define the list of users who will have access to the FTP server. For each of them, a password can be set and also a set of access levels.

At this point, the server configuration is almost complete and the user will be able to optionally configure SSH settings, for protecting the FTP server from hackers or viruses. Having configured all these settings, the FTP server is ready to be used and everybody will be able to access it, by using any regular FTP client.

Pros

It allows you to run your own FTP server and customize it in every way possible. Besides that, one can define various users and passwords, each having its own access level. Furthermore, the server IP address and port can be freely modified. What's more, it can use SSL encryption, for protecting the server from hackers.

Cons

Some settings may require network skills and experience in order to be fully used. FileCOPA FTP Server allows you to run your own FTP server in no time.
